15th March, 2011, Tuesday, all day. The Ides of March. The soothsayer's warning to Julius Caesar, "Beware the Ides of March," has forever imbued that date with a sense of foreboding (it used to be known as Income Tax-um due-um). According to Richard Armour, Julius Caesar was a generous sort, and on that day in 44 B.C. when offering Marcus Brutus a plate of figs, he characteristically said, "Eat two, Brutus." But Brutus, although blinded by tears, was able to find a bare spot in Caesar's chest, and before nightfall, Caesar was found dead in a rented toga.
